We came up from Leeds and were staying in Wendsleydale and wanting to find a pub that would be showing the Rugby at 8pm on the Friday night and so I ed the manager Damien asking him if they will be showing the game, He replied stating that they had 2 tv's with Sky Sports and it wouldnt be a problem We got a taxi to the Bolton arms at 8pm and asked the bar guy where the tv was that would be showing the Rugby, He said that they were showing the football that night on both tv's, there were around 10 people watching 1 tv and 2 people watching the other.
I said that id ed the manager and he assured me it would be ok, he then went upstairs to confirm with the manager I then asked my barman to go down and see if the people in the back room would move to the other TV and put it on, I also told him if there was to many in the back there is the small TV in the front.
I then heard nothing else from it so I was under the impression it was sorted, if this was not the case witch I can see I was not I can only apologize. We have just returned from an Easter break in Leyburn and visited the Bolton Arms on a couple of evenings just for drinks.
A fine imposing building but looks can be deceiving. The inside is tired, weary and soulless. When we tried to get served with drinks and the place wasn't full the bar person seemed to struggle to drag himself away from what were obviously regular customers and their conversations and when serving us, still continued with his conversation. Little or no eye contact was made with us. Whilst keeping regulars happy, more attentiveness to other customers wouldn't come amiss.
We are ex-publicans and although I wouldn't expect staff to become my new best friend, a certain degree of friendliness would be expected. On our current visits, the Bolton Arms atmosphere resembled a railway station waiting room. Nice pub grub, very large portions, roaring log fire. Visited on a wet Friday, also market day, lots of fresh veg in the market. Popped in here on our way over the dales. Looks great form the outside, perhaps not reflected in the interior. Staff were very pleasant, food came quickly. All was home cooked and quite tasty. They're not going to win any awards but they aren't too bad.
Price is a little steep for what you get but I've had much worse. Own or manage this property? Claim your listing for free to respond to reviews, update your profile and much more.
